People have lots of demands on their time, & need every advantage they can get to be more effective. When I do corporate and business consultancy, one of the most common challenges that people want to deal with is being focused & making progress on important business objectives or life goals. It s a throwaway line for a disposable world. However, how does your throwaway line and casual attitude translate to those you say it to? Scott goes on to say that the two words are actually two negatives, no and problem. Through a wonderful personal story he relates that rather than answering a request with no problem, it would be much more meaningful and powerful to say It would be my pleasure. Bob Hope held many odds jobs before becoming a comedian Long before Hope became a successful comedian, he held many odd jobs selling newspapers, was a delivery boy, worked in a soda shop, a shoe salesman. Newspaper reporter and was an amateur boxer. Many of us have had to work at odd jobs in order to make money. In daily conflicts, sometimes at the expense of our dearest relationships, we have to prevail. When we feel attacked we fight back, sometimes with our own hurtful words, or with behavior calculated to control, manipulate and diminish. Shifting Gears According to Tom Crum, when we shift into Discovery, we treat mistakes as outcomes and conflicts as opportunities to learn and understand more of the world and our partners. Think of a person, who made a bed especially for a sick person. During a visit to the sick person, the maker is told that the bed has made life much better and how much the patient loves the bed and thanks the maker for that. The person who made that bed will feel extremely satisfied with his/her work after this session.
